Welcome to the blog about the voyaging canoe Iosepa. Iosepa was launched on the third of November, 2001 from Hukilau Beach at La'ie Bay with an estimated 3,000 people in attendance.
This canoe was funded, in large part, by a grant from the W.K.Kellog Foundation and is a vital component of the Hawaiian Studies Program at the Brigham Young University Hawai'i, serving not only as a "floating classroom," but as a representation of the strength the Hawaiian culture is gaining.
Iosepa joins the family of voyaging canoes in Hawai'i such as Hokule'a, Makali'i, and Hawai'iloa (for more information on other canoes visit our links and this site).
Here anyone can post their thoughts and remembrances of the voyaging canoe Iosepa.
This blog and others were started for the intent of gathering oral histories from former crew members to present and document in a Senior Project for Feki Po'uha. Not only former crew members are invited to write, but anyone is welcomed to leave their thoughts and other media. If one wishes to become an author on this blog, please email

The companion photo blog to this site is found at iosepa.blogspot.com where there are many pictures that have been gathered from other sites or uploaded from various people. There are also some pictures located on this blog, but this site is primarily for people to write their thoughts.
